What we treat

  • Mould on the roof sheathing and trusses.
  • Wet, packed-down or soiled insulation.
  • Animal droppings and nests.
  • Odours coming from the attic.

The steps

  1. Inspection. We find the affected areas and look for the cause: roof leak, ventilation, warm air rising from the house, animal entry.
  2. Protection. We protect the way through your home and seal off the work area.
  3. Removal. We vacuum out the contaminated insulation.
  4. Cleaning. We clean and treat the affected wood.
  5. Correction. We fix the cause, often the ventilation and air leaks.
  6. Insulation. We re-insulate, up to R-60.

The signs

  • A musty smell upstairs or in the closet with the hatch.
  • Black stains on the attic wood.
  • Frost under the roof in winter.
  • Rings or stains on the ceiling.
  • Noises or signs of animals.

Why you shouldn't wait

Mould keeps spreading as long as the cause remains. Wood that stays wet for a long time gets damaged, wet insulation stops working well and the smells end up coming down into the house.

Vermiculite

If your attic contains vermiculite (light, grey or golden granules), don't touch it. It can contain asbestos. Have it tested by a lab before any work.

Frequently asked questions

Can the mould come back?

Yes, if the cause remains. That's why we fix the ventilation and air leaks before re-insulating.

Is it covered by my insurance?

It depends on your policy and the cause of the problem. Call your insurer before the work. We can give you the photos and the quote.

How much does decontamination cost?

The price depends on the affected area, the amount of insulation to remove and access. We give you a written price after the inspection.

Do you handle vermiculite?

Not without testing. If we suspect vermiculite, we ask you to have it tested before any work.
